Taipei, Taiwan Designed specifically for the embedded market, VIA Technologies, Inc.'s VIA CX700M integrated video processor for the VIA C7 and Eden CPU platforms integrates premium graphics, audio, video, memory, storage, and HDTV support all in a single chip design.
The Integrated Video Processor has Northbridge and Southbridge functions integrated on a single die, which is what enables the device to be used to develop smaller embedded devices.
Measuring 35mm x 35mm, the VIA CX700M generates a silicon real estate saving of over 42%, according to the company. A host of leading digital media, memory and connectivity technologies are packed into the design of the VIA CX700M.
Supporting Advanced HDTV, the chip offers an HDTV encoder for connection to the latest displays, and multi-configuration LVDS/DVI transmitter. Enhanced video quality is provided through the VIA UniChrome Pro II IGP core with its 128-bit 2D/3D graphics. The Chromotion Video Engine delivers a Hi-Def visual experience including advanced video acceleration for MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and WMV9.
VIA's memory controller technology has been incorporated into the VIA CX700M, with support for both DDR and the latest low power high-bandwidth DDR2 memory modules. This includes support for 32-bit DRAM modules enabling a further reduction in form factor. Integrating the VIA Vinyl HD Audio controller supports up to eight high definition channels.
Broad connectivity comes with support for SATA II and PATA drives, six USB2.0 ports, and four PCI slots.
The VIA CX700M is expected to be available in volume quantities later in Q3 2006. When the CX700M is bundled with the VIA C7 processor, the digital media chipset is priced at $69 in quantities of 10,000 chipsets. An embedded board containing the VIA CX700M will be available shortly with a price of approximately $220. For more information on the VIA CX700M, please visit the VIA website at: www.via.com.tw
