Vancouver, Wash. Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation announced that global parent Kyocera Corp. has released a new line of liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) that feature a unique light-emitting diode (LED) backlighting system instead of conventional cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) .
The new LCD products are designed to meet a wide range of industrial display applications including manufacturing controls, test and measurement equipment, and medical systems. The LCDs are available in STN, CSTN, and TFT models, initially in 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch diagonal modules. Introduction of 3.5-, 6.2-, 7.5-, 8.9-, and 10.4-inch modules will follow. Kyocera expects to ship 30,000 units per month by March 2007.
The LCDs feature 3/5/12 Vdc operation and reduced or eliminated EMI (requires no inverter). They are also said to provide faster start-up in low-temperature environments and luminance control via current control to further reduce power consumption and extend battery life. The environmentally-friendly LCDs are lead free and mercury free.
The new line-up includes a 5.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transmissive, 5.7-inch QVGA TFT Transmissive, 4.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transmissive, and 4.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transflective.
In quantities of 1,000, suggested retail pricing is as follows:
- $141 for the 5.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transmissive
- $200 for the 5.7-inch QVGA TFT Transmissive
- $112 for the 4.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transmissive
- $127 for the 4.7-inch QVGA CSTN Transflective
