Bellevue, Wash. eMagin Corporation will begin shipping pre-production version samples of its SVGA-3DS 0.44-inch microdisplay. The microdisplays will be available in limited quantities with a custom interface design and reference kit (IDRK) in December.
The SVGA-3DS microdisplay, which uses the company's OLED-XL technology, offers both analog and digital signal processing in a compact display with embedded analog and digital interface capabilities. The microdisplays are said to eliminate the need for extra circuitry and components while allowing for a smaller display module design with increased functionality.
eMagin said these SVGA-3DS displays offer several enhancements including improved pixel uniformity, extremely high contrast (measured in the lab at 10,000:1), improved color gamut, an on-chip temperature sensor, and luminance compensation over the entire military specification range, while retaining the high-energy efficiency and high video speed characteristics of eMagin's approx. 0.6-inch diagonal OLED microdisplays.
Available in limited sample quantities, the specially-designed IDRK provides system designers with full access to the SVGA-3DS internal functions and registers, and enables them to assess its capabilities and performance. However, the company notes that these are prototypes so they may exhibit some flaws common to prototypes but they provide an accurate display size, image quality and brightness.
