Chelmsford, Mass.Slated for broadband instrumentation, test-and-measurement, and (of course) communications applications, Hittite Microwave Corp. rolls out two MMIC-based (microwave monolithic IC) connectorized PA (power amplifier) modules.
Many broadband RF devices are difficult to embed in a working circuit, especially at UHF and above. But these devices amplify from 10-MHz all the way out to 15-GHz, and are ready to go building blocks.
Hittite Microwave's HMC-C037 device is a GaAs (gallium arsenide) PHEMT (pseudomorphic high electron-mobility transistor) MMIC. It's a 0.5-W wideband PA with an integrated heatsink and EMI-filtered DC terminals. The HMC-C037 typically delivers flat 12-dB of gain up to 12-GHz, eliminating the need for band switching in many applications.
For its part, the HMC-C036 provides up to +37-dBm (5-W) output IP3 (third-order intercept point), and up to +28-dBm (640-mW) of output power (at the 1-dB compression point). Gain flatness is within 0.3-dB from to 15-GHz, while saturated output power is 0.5-W up to the same frequency.
Both HMC-C037 and the HMC-C036 exhibit identical electrical specifications. The primary difference between the two is that the HMC-C037 is offered with an integrated heatsink, while the HMC-C036 is offered in a miniature, hermetic module.
Like the HMC-C037, the HMC-C036 is a GaAs PHEMT MMIC PA with replaceable SMA coax connectors. The I/Os of the HMC-C036 and HMC-C037 amplifiers are internally matched to 50-Ω and are DC blocked.
Both amplifiers also feature integrated voltage regulators. These support flexible biasing of both negative and positive supply pins, and you get internal bias sequencing circuitry.
Both amplifiers are specified for operation over the 0°C to +85° C temperature range.
