Fremont, Calif. Aimed at industrial, consumer and battery-powered applications, Exar Corp. is sampling a pair of I²C/SPI UARTs with 64-Byte FIFOs. The XR20V2170 integrates an RS-232 transceiver, and the XR20M1170 is a low-voltage, 1.8-V device.
The XR20V2170 is a UART with 64 byte TX and RX FIFOs, a selectable I&SUP2;C/SPI slave interface and RS-232 transceiver. The XR20V2170 operates from 2.97-V to 3.63-V. It offers additional features such as a programmable fractional baud rate generator, and 8X and 4X sampling rates that allows for a maximum baud rate of 1-Mbits/s at 3.3-V.
The XR20M1170 UART has 64 byte TX and RX FIFOs, a selectable I&SUP2;C/SPI slave interface and operates from 1.62-V to 3.63-V. The enhanced features in the XR20M1170 include a programmable fractional baud rate generator, and 8X and 4X sampling rate that allows for a maximum baud rate of 16-Mbits/s at 3.3-V.
"The small package options of the XR20X series is a good fit for space constrained designs, and the lower pin count host interface simplifies design and layout issues and helps to accelerate the OEM's final system deployment," said Levent Ozcolak, vice president of marketing, Interface Products, in a statement. "The XR20V2170 offers a single-chip solution for a UART and RS-232 transceiver combination, which reduces cost and board space while providing a high-performance serial interface."
The XR20M1170 is offered in five packages: a 28-pin QFN, 24-pin QFN, 16-pin-QFN, 24-pin TSSOP, and a 16-pin TSSOP, and is priced in the $2.00 range in 1,000 piece quantities.
