Chandler, Ariz.—Microchip Technology says its 18-bit, delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter, for portable measurement in industrial, medical, consumer, and automotive applications, is the highest-resolution ADC available in a SOT-23 package.
The chip includes a voltage reference and programmable gain amplifier (x1, x2, x4, or x8). The ADC uses an I2C compatible serial interface. The device features very low power consumption— just 155 microamps at 5 volts. As such it's suited for in-the-field products including pressure sensors, weigh scales, handheld meters, multimeters, heart rate monitors, blood glucose meters, weigh scales, and fuel gauges.
