Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has expanded its non-shielded power inductor offering, which previously focused on high-power and high-saturation devices, with the low-profile MPE and MPI series inductors that are suitable for applications with space constraints. Instrumental in protecting sensitive components from damaging over-current conditions, power inductors are used in many consumer electronics applications and around I/O ports.
The MPE series offers a low profile of 1.2 mm and is capable of handling currents up to 1.4 A. The inductance range is 1 to 68 uH. The low profile makes it suitable for handheld electronics devices such as PDAs, camcorders, digital cameras, as well as LCD televisions.
The low-profile MPI series is available in three heights from 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm. This series features a rugged enclosure making it suitable for environments up to 105°C, which is said to be well above the capabilities of standard power inductors, while providing excellent pick-and-place surface for automated mounting.
The MPI power inductors are available in inductance values from 1 to 1000 uH, and are rated up to 2.5 A. The low profile makes the MPI inductors suitable for portable electronics, while the wide inductance range and current handling meet the demanding requirements of desktop computer applications. Available on tape and reel packaging, typical pricing for the MPE series is around $0.27 each and approximately $0.24 for the MPI series. Delivery is eight to 10 weeks, with samples available in three to four weeks.
