San Jose, Calif. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors unveils its expanded range of high-power laser (HPL) products at Photonics West 2007, Jan. 23-25. These include discrete power laser diodes, unmounted laser bars, as well as water-cooled vertical laser stacks and laser bars in standard packages.
Water-cooled vertical laser stacks consist of up to 20 laser bars, which operate in continuous wave (CW) mode or in quasi-continuous wave (QCW) mode. Standard wavelengths are 808, 915, 940 or 975 nanometers (nm). Depending on the version, the stacks can achieve outputs in the kilowatt range and provide a life of more than 10,000 hours. Typical applications include high output systems for pumping solid-state lasers, direct material processing and medical applications.
Passive-cooled laser diodes on solid copper heat sinks are used wherever water-cooling is not possible, for example, in transportable systems for medical applications. They provide optical outputs of up to 50 watts in CW mode. Click the link for more information about OSRAM's high-power lasers.
Power laser diodes will be available in a variety of standard versions. Application-specific versions can also be provided as required.
