Munich, GermanyEPCOS has developed two ferrite materials with enhanced properties that make them suitable for the power-range typical of switch-mode power supplies and current meters.
The EPCOS ferrite material N95 is designed to minimize magneto-crystalline anisotropy over a wide temperature range. This has been possible by optimizing both the composition and process. It offers a high flux density of 525 mT at 25°C and 410 mT at 100°C. It features low-power dissipation at 100°C: it is only 250 kW/m3 at 500 kHz with a flux density of 50 mT.
The EPCOS ferrite material N95 has an optimum operating frequency range of between 25 kHz and 500 kHz. Typical applications for the EPCOS ferrite material N95 are power transformers in switch-mode power supplies. This material is available in the E, ER and ETD cores.
The EPCOS ferrite material T36 is distinguished particularly by its high linearity; therefore, it can be used in current meter applications. It has an initial permeability of 7000 and a flux density of 400 mT (25 °C). Typical operating frequencies are between 50 Hz and 100 kHz. It is available as a ring core.
Both materials may also be supplied in customized designs.
