Sunnyvale, Calif. Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) completed the roll out of its RAID 6 controller line with the 3ware 9650SE-24M8, a 24-port device that delivers throughput speeds of more than 700Mbytes/s.
According to AMCC, the 3ware 9650SE-24M8 is up to 300 percent faster than competing controllers. AMCC attributes these features to its eighth generation StorSwitch non-blocking switch fabric architecture.
The controller's multi-lane M8 cable/connector system employs Molex iPass technology. Consequently, the 24-port cabling system uses three connectors to attach to 24 drives, making it suitable for high density environments.

AMCC's line of PCI Express-to-SATA II RAID controllers now consists of 2, 4-, 8-, 12-, 16- and 24-port offerings. AMCC's 3ware 9650SE family of RAID controllers is available in low profile 2-, 4-, and 8-port models, and full-height 12- 16- and 24-port configurations.
RAID 6 safeguards data against two drive failures for maximum fault tolerance. The 9650SE controllers minimize the RAID 6 write performance penalty by calculating double-parity simultaneously, rather than consecutively.
Pricing: Suggested list prices start at $195 for the 2-port configuration and range to $995 for the 16-port model. The 24-port configuration lists for $1,595.
