Schaumburg, Ill. Omron Electronic Components LLC offers the D6BN series of micro tilt sensors for detecting vertical versus horizontal positioning. With a very low profile of 2-mm in a gull-wing SMD package, the D6BN sensors measure 7 (W) x 7 (D) mm. The device offers a 74% reduction in height as compared to previous models, said Omron.
TheD6BN tilt sensors consume only 1 mA at 2.4 to 3.6 Vdc when operating and only 1 uA in standby mode. Through the utilization of Hall-Effect technology (versus
metal ball or mercury styles) these devices detect tilting over a range of 40° to 80° in right or left inclinations. They offer shock resistance of 75 G, virtually eliminating false positive readings, said Omron.
The D6BN sensors operate in a temperature range of -10°C to 60°C in 25% to 85% humidity, barring any icing or condensation. Their output transitions from high to low in the operation angle of 40° to 80°. Conversely, the output level transitions from low to high in the return angle of 50° to 10°. The D6BN sensors are RoHS compliant.
These tilt sensors may be used in products that require automatic changes to display aspect ratios. These include handheld devices such as PDAs, mobile phones with cameras, digital cameras, and test equipment. Other uses include screen and display flipping, level sensing, refrigeration equipment orientation, anti-theft/anti-tamper of gaming machines, vending machines, and hazardous shipping containers.
