Santa Clara, Calif. IXYS Corp. has announced that its U.K.-based wholly-owned subsidiary, Westcode Semiconductors Limited, launched a series of 600-V thyristors. The four new thyristors are encapsulated in Westcode's low-profile Wespack housings.
The Wespack phase control thyristors are available in four current ratings from 2154 to 6974 amperes. The devices incorporate a new technology developed to optimize the requirements of 600-V thyristors, said Westcode, which results in the lowest possible forward drop at the full rated current. In addition, when combined with the Wespack outline, the design offers maximum current rating and lowest thermal resistance for weight and volume, said the company.
The Wespack thyristor package measures only 14-mm (0.55-in.) thick, which optimizes the thermal path from silicon to cooling system. The hermetic ceramic package is suitable for all cooling options including forced air, liquid, and total immersion systems such as oil and fluoroinert.
The new devices include:
- N2154JK600 (2154 A, 32-mm pole face with junction to case thermal resistance of 0.027 K/W)
- N3220QK600 (3229 A, 38-mm pole face with junction to case thermal resistance of 0.018 K/W)
- N4316MK600 (4316 A, 50-mm pole face with junction to case thermal resistance of 0.014 K/W)
- N6974MK600 (6974 A, 68-mm pole face with junction to case thermal resistance of 0.009 K/W)
Typical applications include welding, chemical power supplies, battery-powered systems, and all low-voltage rectification requirements.
