Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. says its series of sapphire-based, high-intensity blue SMD LEDs offers highly efficient InGaN technology at a lower cost than standard InGaN blue LEDs. The VLMB41XX LEDs also feature a high luminous intensity of 45 to 112 mcd.
The six new SMD LEDs in the VLMB41XX series provide illumination for applications including backlighting in automotive dashboards and switches; indicators and backlighting in telecommunications systems, audio and video equipment, and office equipment; and flat backlighting for LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.
The VLMB41XX devices offer a 60° angle of half intensity and an ESD-withstand voltage up to 2 kV, in accordance with JESD22-A114-B. The devices are housed in the EIA- and ICE-standard PLCC-2 package, which consists of a leadframe embedded in a white thermoplast. The reflector inside this package is filled with clear epoxy.
Preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a standards, the PLCC-2 package is lead free and RoHS compliant. The devices are CECC compatible with infrared, vapor phase, and wave solder processes to simplify handling. For automatic component insertion, the PLCC-2 package is available in an anti-static 8-mm blister tape in accordance with DIN IEC 40 (CO) 564.
