Tokyo, Japan TDK Corp. claims to deliver the industry's first low-voltage (6.8 volt) and smallest multi-layer varistor. Packaged in a 0603 (0.6 x 0.3 x 03 mm) case size, the AVRM0603C6R8NT101N is aimed at mobile electronic devices such as mobile phones, portable media players, digital still cameras and digital video cameras.
Addressing the industry's need for protective components with low voltage and a compact size, TDK said it improved the device's materials and internal structures to reduce the voltage to 6.8 volts from 8 volts. Because the varistors are compact and have no polarity, they contribute to reductions in both mounting area and mounting costs, making them suitable as static electric countermeasures in compact mobile devices, said TDK. The capacitance value is 100 pF at 1 kHz.
Availability: Mass production will begin in June.
