New Bedford, Mass. Cornell Dubilier Electronics (CDE) has expanded its Type MCH series of multi-layer RF chip capacitors with voltage ratings of 2500 Vdc and 4000 Vdc. The Type MCH family uses high Q alumina silicate (mica) /resin/epoxy construction to avoid cracking and delaminating that is typically associated with porcelain and NPO ceramics in large SMD sizes, said CDE.
The high-temperature threshold of the MCH chips is compatible with FR4 boards and permits wave soldering. A non-magnetic version, Type MCHN, is available for applications such as MRI where strong magnetic fields are present. Type MCH and MCHN are designed for use in high RF power designs where stability and low losses are critical. Applications include MRI coils, plasma chambers, baluns, lasers, RF power amplifiers, antennas and transmitters.
Type MCH is available in a 3838 (.380 x .380 in./ 9.9 x 9.9 mm) case size, surface mountable package. The capacitance values range from 10 pF to 220 pF at 4000 Vdc and up to 1000 pF at 2500 Vdc. The MCH is said to deliver lower equivalent series resistance (ESR), higher Q factor, and higher current carrying capability than similar dielectrics including porcelain and NPO ceramics.
