Worcester, Mass. Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. has introduced a low-voltage bi-directional DC motor driver with an input voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V and output currents up to 500 mA. Targeting portable and instrumentation markets, the A3903 is offered in a 2 x 2 x 0.575-mm, 8-lead DFN package.
The unique output full-bridge incorporates source side linear operation to allow a constant voltage supply across the motor coil. This regulated output minimizes motor voltage change due to I x Rds(on) variation and battery voltage tolerance, said Allegro.
In addition, logic input pins are provided to control the motor direction of rotation, brake and standby (lt;500 nA supply current) modes and to allow optional PWM of the sink drivers. Internal protection circuitry includes thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, and crossover (shoot through) protection.
The A3903 is supplied in an 8-lead DFN package with an exposed thermal pad (package suffix "EE") that is lead free with 100% matte tin leadframe plating.
