Raleigh, N.C. Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has extended its RNC series of precision nichrome thin-film chip resistors with an extended resistance range at a 0.01% tolerance and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values of 5 and 10 ppm.
The strength of nichrome as a thin-film resistor element has always been the wide resistance range offered for .1% tolerances and 25-ppm TCR requirements, said Stackpole. What has changed is the ability to achieve high levels of stability using the relatively inexpensive nichrome thin-film technology, added the company.
For example, Stackpole has extended the ohmic value range to a lower limit of 49.9 ohms and an upper limit of 12 Kohms at a 0.01% tolerance and 10-ppm TCR in a 0603 case size. Similar improvements have been made in all other sizes, said the company.
The RNC series is suitable for a range of precision applications including test and metering, test equipment, medical test and monitoring, instrumentation, and critical control circuitry. These devices may also be used in audio applications, network communications and network test circuitry that require a resistor with lower noise.
The RNC series is RoHS compliant and offers standard tape-and-reel packaging in 4,000-pieceiincrements for the 1210 and 2512 sizes, 5,000 pieces for the 0603 to 1206 sizes, and 10,000 pieces for the 0402 and 0201 sizes.
Pricing: $0.08 to $0.12 for the most popular 0.1% tolerance, 25-ppm resistors. Pricing depends on size, tolerance, TCR and volume.
