Cary, N.C. Extending its mobile hydraulic sensor line, MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division has developed a compact position sensor, based on the company's Temposonics technology, with a CANbus interface. The MH sensor is suitable for off-road applications including welded and tie-rod cylinders, or any space-limited cylinder applications.
With a 100g shock and 25g vibration rating, the MH sensor targets rugged environments, especially those typically encountered in construction, agriculture, and other off-highway machinery. Designed for cylinders two inches in diameter (or larger), the MH sensor provides measurement ranges between two to 98 inches (50-2500 mm), while maintaining high levels of accuracy and repeatability, said MTS.
The MH sensor consists of a sensor head with a rugged housing and built-in electronics, a pressure-proof sensor pipe that protects the internal sensing element, and a position magnet. Along with high shock and vibration ratings, the sensor offers 200 V/m EMI protection.
The MH sensor works with CAN J1939 and CANopen, measuring displacement and speed variables. The sensor is said to be extremely reliable once installed inside a hydraulic cylinder, even when subjected to the harsh conditions found in off-highway machinery. In addition, a recent re-design of the mechanical housing has provided a more robust wire/cable exit that improves the level of strain relief and sealing.
The M-Series sensors meet ISO14982 standards for agricultural and forest machines and ISO7637-0/1/2 standards for road vehicles, and are CE certified. The MH sensor can be installed from the head side or the rod side of the cylinder depending on the cylinder design.
