Unterpremstaetten, Austria austriamicrosystems has introduced its first inductorless DC/DC boost converter in a new product family. The AS1301 is capable of output currents as high as 50 mA from a wide voltage input of 2.7 to 5.25 V.
The AS1301 offers low-noise constant frequency operation from light to higher loads. Its unique constant-frequency architecture provides both low input and low output ripple and the 1-MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external capacitors two ≤220 nF flying caps and two ≤2.2 uF bypass capacitors.
Providing a regulated output, the AS1301 is suitable for a variety of portable devices and other space-constrained equipment. With an efficiency of up to 92%, the AS1301 offers a low quiescent current and features a <5 uA shutdown mode in which the output is fully disconnected from the input.
To prevent excessive inrush current during startup, the AS1301 offers a soft-start feature plus additional features including overload protection and thermal shutdown circuitry. The AS1301 is available in a TDFN (3 x3 x 0.8mm) 10-pin or a WL-CSP 8-bump package and is suitable for operating environments ranging from -40°C to +85°C.
