Greenville, S.C. Kemet Corp. has expanded its X7R multilayer ceramic capacitor flex mitigation portfolio with the introduction of the FF-CAP that uses two existing Kemet technologies Floating Electrode (cascading electrode design) and Flexible Termination to deliver improved voltage and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection as compared to standard designs. It's also said to mitigate the risk of low-IR or short circuit failures associated with mechanical flex cracks.
The Flexible Termination component shifts flex stress away from the ceramic body and into the termination area, which provides the FF-CAP devices with up to a 5 mm of flex-bend capability. This translates into an enhanced level of mechanical flex crack protection for low- to mid-capacitance part types.
The FF-CAP will be available in EIA 0603 to 1210 case sizes with rated voltages ranging from 6.3 Vdc to 250 Vdc. The X7R FF-CAP operates over a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C with zero bias capacitance shift limited to + or - 15% over that range. Capacitance tolerances offered include J (+ or - 5%), K (+ or - 10%) and M (+ or - 20%).
In addition, the FF-CAP meets the requirements of the Automotive Electronics Council's AEC-Q200-Rev C and is offered with 100 percent pure matte tin-plated terminations.
