Southampton, UK Quantum Research Group has started to sample a one-channel capacitive touch sensor dubbed the QT102 in an SOT-23-6 package.
The QT102 integrates power management and safety functions, making it suitable for battery-driven applications and mains-driven products such as kitchen and home appliances.
The QT102 combines a toggle mode on/off switch with a hardware-programmable, auto switch-off function with override and reset capability. It also offers immediate shut-off in case of a system malfunction.
The QT102 is also designed with an internal power management control, running the part mostly in low-power mode and only switching temporarily to its high power, fast mode once a touch is detected. This guarantees a typical current consumption of 37-µA at 3V supply voltage, while maintaining a fast response time to touch.
Pricing: Less than 50 cents in high-volume quantities.
Availability: Sampling now; a demo board will be available by early September 2007.
