Sunnyvale, Calif. Supertex has introduced the HV9982, a three-channel LED driver IC designed to provide high LED current accuracy through closed-loop control of the output currents. It is specifically designed for applications using RGB LED backlighting or multiple strings of white LEDs.
The HV9982 employs a fixed frequency, closed-loop, current mode control
architecture that is said to ensure stable operation over a wide range of input and output
voltages. Its high-side current sensing allows it to be used in buck, boost or SEPIC
configurations while delivering ±1% current accuracy between strings.
The HV9982 features an internal 40-V linear regulator providing an 8-V power supply to the IC. The IC uses an internal control with an external clock source to facilitate synchronization. Each channel of the HV9982 can drive a LED string of up to 200 V, with efficiency greater than 90%. The output current range of each channel is user-programmable with an external sense resistor and can be individually dimmed using either linear or PWM dimming. Three built-in disconnect FET drivers enable high PWM dimming ratios.
Programmable slope compensation allows for synchronization and greater than a 50%
duty cycle in fixed frequency operation. The HV9982 also includes hiccup mode protection for both open LED and short circuit conditions. The device is available in a 40-lead QFN package (HV9982K6-G). The part is green and RoHS compliant.
