TDK Corporation has announced the addition of a 22µF capacitor to the CKD series of 3-terminal feed-through multilayer ceramic chip capacitors. The CKD310JB0J226M is in mass production now in the same size as earlier CKD products measuring only 3.2mm x 1.6mm x 1.3mm.
Compared to 2-terminal capacitors, 3-terminal, feed-through capacitors have low ESL, high attenuation in high-frequency ranges and require less board space. Previously, a smoothing circuit required two or three 2-terminal 10µF capacitors measuring 1.6mm x 0.8mm, and a 0.1µF capacitor measuring 1.0mm x 0.5mm, but now a single CKD310JB0J226M can achieve the same result.
The footprint and performance of the CKD310JB0J226M were achieved through improvements to design and process technologies made possible by TDK's simulation technology. In addition, the use of internal electrodes fabricated from nickel and a multilayer design have resulted in a low RDC and a rated current up to 4A, enabling designers to eliminate noise over a wide bandwidth whilst minimising design footprint. This means that the CKD310JB0J226M is particularly effective for IC power-supply decoupling and DC/DC converter input and output smoothing.
The CKD310JB0J226M is RoHS compliant, completely lead-free, rated to 6.3V, and has a specified operating temperature from -25°C to +85°C. This component is available now, supplied either in volume tape-and-reel packaging or for smaller quantities in bulk.
About TDK Electronics Europe GmbH
