Smyrna, Ga. Murata Electronics North America claims to introduce the industry's smallest radio frequency (RF), surface-mount switch connector for wireless applications. The SWF series ceramic component measures 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.4 mm and is designed to test microwave frequencies throughout a product's development stage up to final production.
The small footprint makes the RF connector suitable for cell phones, smart phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), global positioning satellites (GPSs) and measurement equipment. The SWF series can also be used for advanced devices such as wireless local area networks (WLAN), WiMax, ultra-wide band (UWB), Bluetooth and Zigbee technologies.
The switch connector's test probes are compatible with the larger SWD series connectors, which eliminates the need to change test probes when transitioning to the smaller SWF series. It also makes it easier for engineers to incorporate the connector into designs. Other key features include its wide operating frequency from DC to 6 GHz, insertion loss of 0.1 dB maximum to 3 GHz and high durability for engagement (100 cycles).
Pricing: The RoHS-compliant SWF series (global part number: MM8130-2600RB8) is priced at approximately 16 to 20 cents depending on order quantity.
Delivery: Lead time is approximately eight to ten weeks. Murata also offers test probes, manual probes for prototyping and production probes for use on the manufacturing line.
