Carrollton, Tex. TT electronics OPTEK Technology has developed a series of optically coupled isolators incorporating the company's Photologic sensor technology. The OPI125/6/7/8 series isolators consist of a GaAs infrared LED coupled to a photodiode, a linear amplifier and a Schmitt trigger integrated on a single silicon chip. To achieve long-term stability, the diode and the sensor are hermetically sealed in separate packages and mounted within a high dielectric plastic housing.
The OPI125/6/7/8 series isolators provide a direct TTL/LSTTL interface with four output options totem pole, open collector, inverse totem pole or inverse open collector, and offer the capability to drive up to eight TTL loads without additional circuitry at data rates up to 250 kBaud.
The OPI125/6/7/8 series isolators are rated for 15 kV isolation and carry a power dissipation rating of 200 mW. The GaAs LED (emitter) emits a peak wavelength of either 890 nm or 935 nm with a forward DC current of 25 mA. Applications include industrial, medical and office equipment, as well as high-voltage electrical isolation circuits in harsh environments.
The series' four output options are: OPI125 (totem pole), OPI126 (open collector), OPI127 (inverse totem pole), and OPI128 (inverse open collector). The isolators are recognized under UL Standard 1577 (File #E58730) for 3750 Vac at 100°C.
The output Photologic photosensors operate with a 20 mA supply current and a maximum low-level output voltage of 0.40 V. High-level output voltage (VOH) for the OPI125/7 totem pole logic devices is 2.4 V (min.), and high-level output current (IOH) for the OPI126/8 open collector devices is 100 uA (max.). Typical rise and fall times for all the devices is 70 ns, with typical low-high and high-low propagation delays of 5 us. The operating temperature range is -55°C to +100°C. The devices are also compatible with high-temperature soldering processes of 260°C.
The OPI125/6/7/8 Series isolators are RoHS-compliant. Custom electrical specifications, as well as special connectors or cabling configurations are available. TX and TXV-level processing are also offered.
