Irvine, Calif. Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) has expanded its automotive-grade hard disk drive (HDD) line with the introduction of a 2-5-inch 80 GB offering, which provides a significant capacity increase to enable the next generation of advanced navigation, in-car entertainment and vehicle connectivity solutions.
In addition to higher capacity, the automotive HDDs offer improved altitude specifications to further ruggedize the devices to meet the operating extremes of the road environment. With the altitude specification now at 5,500 meters, the sixth-generation automotive-grade HDD series includes both an 80 GB model, the MK8050GAC, and an improved 40 GB model, the MK4050GAC.
In addition to automotive applications, the HDDs are finding homes in other ruggedized applications such as surveillance systems, remote computing platforms, equipment control applications and other industrial computing devices thanks to their enhanced environmental specifications and shock and vibration resistance.
Availability: Samples are now available to automotive OEMs and aftermarket suppliers.
