Sunnyvale, Calif. STS Inc. has announced the availability of its fourth-generation audio baseband chip for digital wireless audio platforms. The STS DARR81 chip enables simultaneous audio connections of consumer electronics (CE) devices such as headphones, speakers, home theater systems, flat panel TVs, game consoles, iPod and portable media player docking stations, and PCs for uninterrupted streaming of high-definition (HD) uncompressed wireless audio.
The STS HD wireless audio technology delivers a set of rich wireless functionality on a single chip. The HD audio ensures a high quality 24 bit/96 ksps wireless experience. Providing low-jitter specifications for a 3-D audio experience, the chip provides a range of up to 150 feet indoors and 500 feet outdoors. A repeater function is available for extended range requirements. The wireless audio technology offers consumers a zero-effort, out-of-the-box entertainment solution, delivering the highest quality of experience (QoE), said STS.
Other key features of the audio chip include a bi-directional channel that allows HD audio to be both transmitted and received with a single device simultaneously, enabling HD headsets for VoIP and gaming applications. It also provide multi-channel functionality that allows streaming of up to eight different concurrent single streams or four bi-directional streams of HD audio, enabling 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, headphone and multi-room applications at the same time.
For a demonstration of STS's technology, visit the company's booth at the CES trade show in Las Vegas, January 7-10, 2008, or visit any of the several CE and ODM manufacturers that will be demonstrating wireless products based on the STS technology.
