Raleigh, N.C. Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has expanded its HVC series of high-voltage chip resistors with resistance values up to 10 Gigohms. The HVC devices also deliver absolute maximum voltage ratings that are significantly higher than previous voltage ratings.
The new absolute maximum voltage ratings by chip size are as follows: 2512-packaged device is rated up to 25 KV; 2010 rated up to 20 KV; 1206 rated up to 15 KV; 0805 rated up to 10 KV and the 0603 rated up to 5 KV. These higher ratings are key for those applications where the device's terminals will be isolated from each other, typically with some type of potting compound, said Stackpole. The HVC series also maintains a .5% tolerance and a temperature coefficient of 25 ppm/°C.
The HVC series uses a different method of depositing the thickfilm resistance material on the substrate. This proprietary process yields a resistance element that is many times more stable, less noisy, and capable of much higher voltages and resistance values as compared to most other high-voltage resistors currently available, said the company.
These resistors are suitable for a variety of medical applications, high-voltage power supplies, personal protection devices, night vision goggles, baggage scanning equipment,
instrumentation, as well as power and phone distribution safety circuitry.
The HVC series is available in standard tape-and reel-packaging on 7-inch reels.
Pricing: Ranges typically from $.40 each to around $4.00 each, depending on size, tolerance, TCR rating and resistance value.
