MUNICH, Germany Siemens Industry Automation expands its sensor and actuator product range for the IO-Link interface standard. The move covers components and the integration in Siemens' Totally Integrated Automation concept.
The portfolio of IO-Link devices ranges from color sensors, laser-based clearance sensors and ultrasonic sensors to two field distribution modules. Interfacing to the distributed peripheral is via an ET200S peripheral concentrator module. Parameters for the entire IO-Link system are set in the Step 7 software environment via the IO-Link configuration tool and the IO-Link system is integrated in the Simatic automation network.
The compact color sensor Simatic PXO with IO-Link is more powerful than bulk standard color sensors, Siemens claims: the Simatic PXO recognizes multi-colored targets, e.g. packaging printed in different colors.
Users have the choice of five adjustable reference colors, which they can select per teach-in on the sensor or which can be downloaded as recipe parameters via IO-Link interface to the device. The colors can be changed online via the IO-Link interface. For this purpose, colors are measured at a fixed point and their RGB values are uploaded to the control system where they are evaluated.
The laser-based clearance sensor Simatic PXO with IO-Link measures distances within an adjustable range of 80 through 300 millimeters. Parameters can be assigned for the clearance sensor via two keys on the device or in the IOLink configuration tool integrated in Step 7. For example, an external trigger signal, averaging over a number of measuring cycles or a Hold function can be parameterized.
The ultrasonic sensor Simatic PXS is another IO-Link product. The device has a cylindrical housing and a sensing range of up to one meter with a small blind zone. Parameters can be assigned via IO-Link interface for functions such as averaging, damping or time-dependant measuring; and the data can be sent to the main control system for evaluation purposes. The compact IO-Link field distribution modules are rated to strict protection type IP67; they are designed for field service and are ideally suited for connecting small clusters of sensors on the system being monitored / controlled. A maximum of eight binary sensors or limit switches can be connected to the module equipped with the IO-Link interface. This module is connected to the IO-Link master module in the ET200S distributed peripheral system " thus avoiding signal wiring in the control cabinet. Standard M8 and M12 connectors simplify assembly on site.
