Unterpremstaetten, Austria Aimed at high-performance automotive applications, austriamicrosystems has introduced the AS5243, a redundant magnetic rotary encoder IC, that delivers a complete system-on-chip (SoC) contactless magnetic angle position sensor for accurate measurement up to 360°. The high-performance 10-bit analog output and the extended temperature, up to 150°C ambient, meets the demands of many safety critical automotive, industrial and robotics applications.
The SoC includes two AS5143 devices in a punched stacked lead frame. It combines integrated Hall elements, an analog front-end and digital signal processing in a single device. The AS5243 provides two separate programmable analog output, including user programmable angular range, adjustable output voltage range, and voltage or current output, which can be configured in many ways, said austriamicrosystems.
Other features include CHIP-ID for traceability, programmable zero position, diagnostic modes, particularly for the right adjustment of the magnet, and other safety features that have already become a standard of austriamicrosystems' magnetic rotary encoder family.
In addition, the AS5243 features an internal voltage regulator, which allows operation from either 3.3-V (to reduce the power consumption) or 5.0-V supplies. The AS5243 can detect 1,024 absolute positions over a full turn, 180 and 90 degrees. The device meets automotive qualification for AEC-Q100 and is available in a 7 x 7-mm QFN32 package.
austriamicrosystems will demonstrate the AS5243 and its encoder family at the 2008 Sensors Expo in Rosemont, Ill., June 8-11, Booth 621.
