Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has released the VLMx32.. series of surface-mount power LEDs that are said to deliver a significant advance in heat dissipation and brightness. The VLMx32.. devices feature a PLCC-4 package with a leadframe optimized to provide very low thermal resistance down to 290 K/W and power dissipation up to 200 mW. This enables high drive currents up to 70 mA for twice the brightness of Vishay's high-intensity SMD LEDs in the PLCC-2 package. For automotive applications, the VLMx32.. devices are automotive qualified per AEC-Q101.
Available in amber and yellow, these high-intensity LEDs are intended for traffic signals and signs; interior and exterior lighting; automotive interior and exterior lighting; indicators and backlighting in audio and video, telecommunications, and office equipment; and flat backlighting for illuminated advertising, LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.
Built on AllnGaP technology (ESD class 2), the LEDs provide a high luminous intensity of 1400 mcd to 2850 mcd, with dominant wavelengths of 610 nm to 621 nm for the amber devices, and 585 nm to 594 nm for the yellow devices. All VLMx32.. LEDs feature a 60° angle of half-intensity and a luminous intensity per packing unit of less than 1.6, and are categorized, per packing unit, for luminous intensity, color, and forward voltage, so they provide even color and brightness.
The lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant devices are available in 8-mm tape and are suitable for lead-free reflow soldering according to CECC 00802 and J-STD-020B, and preconditioning according to JEDEC Level 2a.
Pricing: Starts at $10.00 per 100 pieces, in quantities of 100,000 for U.S. delivery.
Availability: Samples and production quantities are available now with lead times of four weeks for larger orders.
