MUNICH, Germany The APIX interface for in-car graphics displays has found a new supporter: FPGA vendor Xilinx now has included APIX into the list of the interfaces supported by its Automotive Spartan 3E device.
Since the Spartan FPGA is part of Intel's In-vehicle Infotainment reference design, APIX (Automotive Pixel Link) also is incorporated in the reference board for this platform. APIX developer Inova Semiconductor (Munich, Germany) expects increasing acceptance. The company has developed the serial interface jointly with Fujitsu which also offers a PHY implementation.
Inova currently is working on a software that will make APIX compatible with other technologies, explained Inova General Manager Robert Kraus. He added that in the near future, a German manufacturer will announce the availability of an APIX protocol tester.
APIX links graphics processors located somewhere in the car to display units in the dashboard. Automotive OEM already has announced interest to use the technology.
