Sunnyvale, Calif. SiTime Corp. has introduced the SiT8002XT MEMS-based programmable clock oscillator, which the company claims is one-third the height of quartz-based oscillators. The SiT8002XT measures 3.5 x 3.0 mm with a typical height of 0.25 mm, and is packaged in a four-pad XLLGA package.
Touting industry-leading programmability, reliability and short lead times, the SiT8002XT is aimed at high-volume portable electronics such as high capacity SIM cards, smart cards, mobile phone system-in-package (SIP) modules, digital cameras, LCD TVs, media players, gaming solutions, hard disk drives and USB peripherals.
The SiT8002XT is said to offer 10 times better reliability and shock resistance than quartz oscillators, ensuring longer life electronics. The device's small size also enables it to be embedded inside popular SIP modules for mobile applications, eliminating external clock sources and reducing system design complexity, said SiTime.
The SiT8002XT is fully factory-programmable, allowing samples to be delivered in 24 to 48 hours, which is faster than typical eight- to 16-week lead times for quartz oscillators, according to the company. Factory-programmable features include a highly accurate output clock frequency (1-125 MHz), operating voltage (1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V), frequency tolerance (+/- 100 ppm and +/- 500 ppm) and standby or output enable modes. These features can be configured through an easy-to-use part number calculator available at SiTime's website.
