SAN FRANCISOEDA vendor Mentor Graphics Corp. Monday (Oct. 27) announced the availability of an application reference design said to enable the rapid development of multimedia devices such as portable media players, personal navigation devices, mobile internet devices, mobile phones and others.
The Nucleus Platform Media Player is based on Mentor's Nucleus Operating System (OS), a user interface (UI) engine, and a full complement of development tools, according to the company.
"In the fiercely competitive multimedia markets, device manufacturers must stay focused on innovation to differentiate their products," said Neil Henderson, general manager of Mentor's Embedded Systems Division, in a statement. Mentor's single-vendor reference platform enables developers to more quickly implement core functionality so they can spend more time on differentiating features, he added.
Mentor (Wilsonville, Ore.) said it has partnered with leading software vendors to offer value-added capabilities on the Nucleus Platform Media Player. Partners include VisualOn, Arphic and Arkamys, the company said.
