MUNICH, Germany After the introduction of its HSON-8 power transistor package, NEC Europe again rolls a new package form factor and design aiming at power devices in particular for automotive applications.
A new variant of the well-known DPAK package is said to combine the electrical properties of the larger D2PAK package (TO-263) with a smaller form factor. It supports switching currents of up to 90A and at the same time very low RDS(on). When used with NEC's UMOS-4 trench technology, RDS(on) values of 3.2 to 7.8 milliohm for devices with break-through voltages of 30 to 60V can be achieved, the vendor says. The packages are designed for applications where fast switching of high current is a critical factor, such as DC/DC converters or motor controls.
The new elements are AEC-Q101 qualified for use in automotive applications. In addition, they support channel temperatures of up to 175 degree Celsius.
