LONDON IAR Systems AB (Uppsala, Sweden) has said it plans to develop a version of Embedded Workbench for SH-2A core microcontrollers from Renesas Technology Corp.
Embedded Workbench is a set of development tools for building and debugging applications using assembler, C, and C++. Applications include the automotive, industrial, and consumer appliances fields.
The agreement extends a relationship between Renesas and IAR Systems under which IAR supports most Renesas microcontroller architectures, including the RX CPU.
In a first instance, Embedded Workbench for SuperH will support the SH-2A core product series. It will be available for selected customers from July 2009 and available more generally in the first quarter of 2010.
"This contract shows that even in today's harsh market conditions, chip vendors prioritize investments in attractive development tools to secure support for their architectures," said Stefan Skarin, CEO of IAR Systems, in a statement.
