Maxim Integrated Products has introduced a multiple-output power-supply IC that integrates three regulators whose high-efficiency and fixed-frequency operation allow the use of small inductors and capacitors.
The PMIC offers in a compact and cost-competitive solution for the power requirements of thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD HDTV panels.
The MAX17122 operates from 8 V to 16.5 V input voltages and is optimized for applications running directly from 12 V regulated supplies.
The MAX17122 includes a 22 V internal-switch step-down regulator for digital logic; a 16.5 V internal-switch step-up regulator to power the TFT source drivers; and a temperature-compensated 36 V internal-switch boost-buck regulator that produces a negative output which varies according to the temperature sensed by an external NTC thermistor. The GATE output directly drives an external p-channel MOSFET to provide True Shutdown of the step-up output.
