Micrel Inc., has introduced a Power over Ethernet (PoE) Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) Controller that provides 8-ports of IEEE 802.3af-compliant power delivery in a compact 64-pin LQFP package.
The MIC2358YLQ is targeted at a range of PoE applications including low-density LAN switches, IP Surveillance, VoIP, and mid-span power injectors in the telecommunications and security arenas.
"Fueled by growth in the VoIP market, PoE continues to expand rapidly," noted Wiren Perera, Micrel's director of Ethernet Products. "Micrel's new MIC2358YLQ is fully IEEE 802.3af compliant and reduces the per-port cost of implementing PoE for a wide variety of applications."
The MIC2358YLQ features enhanced manageability facilities to support a range of management environments. A centralized management console may configure and monitor up to 32 devices, representing 256 ports, through a standard SMB bus remote management connection. In addition, the MIC2358YLQ provides a unique autonomous mode, which is capable of managing the power budget without an external host processor. A full complement of over/under voltage/current monitoring is provided, in accordance with the 802.3af standard, to ensure safety and equipment protection.
Availability: Volume quantities will be available in the second quarter of 2010.
