Navigation software companies Kraemer Automotive GmbH and Map & Track Ortungssysteme have jointly developed the KR-7 Map & Track fleet management system. The software permits controlling a fleet of vehicles through a simple PC connected to the Internet.
The KR-7 Map & Track software aims at freight forwarding agencies, taxi service providers, rescue services and other companies that control several vehicles through a central office. The modular system embraces Kraemer Automotive's 'Ultramobile PC' navigation system running under Windows CE, the Map & Guide Truck Navigator software, a GSM/GPRS platform and the server-based IT infrastructure as well as the Enterprise Track software running on it.
The Ultramobile PC (UMPC) device needs to be installed in all vehicles participating at the fleet management system. Since the navigation software installed on the system is designed for trucks, it uses only roads and bridges suitable for this class of vehicles. The UMPC is connected to the Online Pro-1 GSM/GPRS communication system via an RS-232 interface. It communicates via mobile telecommunications services to the internet-based Map&Track server.
Besides the usual operational tasks, the KR-7 software supports geofencing, stolen vehicle tracking, and direct communication between central office and drivers as well as among drivers.
