Class D amps are great news for manufacturers, allowing compact products to be designed that don't need heatsinks (or small ones) but they are an ear-sore for anything beyond mobile phones and simple speech apps. I have yet to hear one in a Stereo/Hi-Fi application that sounds anywhere beyond ordinary. I don't know what aspect of sound audio design they violate, but I would expect TID and transducer damping would be the main ones.
