Texas Instruments Inc. unveiled what it claims is the industry's smallest, most power-efficient digital temperature sensor.
According to TI, the TMP103 consumes 97 percent less power and is 75 percent smaller than the next closest competitor. It also provides global read/write functionality to ease thermal profiling. Using a single command, eight TMP103 devices mounted on the board can simultaneously identify and monitor hotspots. The TMP103 simplifies thermal profiling while enabling longer battery life and smaller form factors for portable consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and netbooks.
Draws a maximum of 1 µA while in shutdown mode and 3 µA while in active mode to extend battery life. In its active state, the TMP103 draws approximately half the power of the next closest competitor in shutdown state, according to TI.
Measures only 0.76 mm x 0.76 mm, making it suitable for high-density, space-constrained applications requiring multiple temperature measurement zones.
Global read/write functionality reduces software development and processor loading. With a single command, the software can poll up to eight devices, reducing MIPS and bandwidth on the I2C bus.
Tools and support: An evaluation module is available now for the TMP103 for $49. An IBIS model to verify board signal integrity requirements is also available.
@Etmax: Actually "Click here" is in a contrasting color; it is a very dark blue that changes to a much lighter blue when the mouse cursor hovers over it. A poor color choice to be sure, but it is not black.
I do agree it says "click here" :-) , but I have to read so much daily that I speed read, so I really appreciate a well formatted document that "draws" your eyes to relevant detail. Doesn't anyone publish or at least read style guides anymore??
It does actually say, "click here" - so that's the place to click!
However, I agree that links really should be made to stand out - at the moment, it looks like they've made the all-too-common mistake of writing "click here" and then forgetting to actually make it clickable!
This is a great product, and I would consider it as a standard part for any design that needs a temperature sensor if it weren't for the fact that it only came in a CSP package. PLEASE TI, release it in a SOT23-4 or SOT23-5 package for that multitude of applications that won't be loaded on a bleeding edge SMT line. I've worked for a number of companies that won't use BGA or CSP packages because they just can't get reliable manufacturing services for them.

In times gone by it has been common place to make a hyperlink stand out from surrounding text so people know what the hell to press on. I don't care how you do it, whether it be making it blue with an underline or simply a dark red or orange per a number of other links on this page, but to make it a colour that on this grey background is barely distinguishable from the black used in the body text is poor design. At least put an underline or make it bold so we know where to click, not having to move the mouse pointer over every word trying to find the Easter eggs.
