The Optoelectronics group of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. announced the VLMU3100, an ultraviolet (UV) LED in the surface-mount PLCC-2 package. Aimed at a wide range of applications, including adhesive curing, the VLMU3100 will serve as a solid-state replacement for mercury vapor lamps.
The VLMU3100 features a typical luminous intensity of 11 mcd at 20 mA, with a typical wavelength of 405 nm and forward voltage of 3.2 V for low power consumption.
Designed for long service life, the VLMU3100's PLCC-2 package consists of a lead frame, which is embedded in a white thermoplastic. The reflector inside this package is cast in clear silicone, guaranteeing a long lifetime. The viewing angle is 120°, and the package dimensions are 3.2 mm by 2.8 mm by 1.9 mm.
The VLMU3100 overcomes many of the problems associated with systems based on mercury vapor lamps, which generate significant heat and degrade unpredictably over their service lives. By comparison, the VLMU3100 features power dissipation of just 120 mW and all the benefits of solid-state LED technology to ensure reliable and stable performance.
The VLMU3100's EIA- and ICE-standard PLCC-2 package is compatible with IR reflow and vapor phase soldering. The devices are supplied in 8 mm tape for automatic placement equipment.
Samples and production quantities of the VLMU3100 are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery only is $9 per 100 pieces.
