Energy Micro has added a “tickless” extension to the free ARM Keil RTX real time operating system to further reduce power consumption on its family of Cortex-M based EFM32 microcontrollers.
It will be available as part of its Simplicity Studio tool suite and was designed to provide an ultra-low power, deep-sleep mode between tasks. According to Energy Micro’s VP of Simplicity, Øyvind Grotmol, the
tickless extension allows the EFM32 MCU to wake up only when needed,
either at a scheduled time or on an interrupt event.
