This week at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley, Green Hills Software made a series of announcements that could have a significant impact in the embedded sector. First, in conjunction with Freescale Semiconductor, Green Hills announced that the two companies will jointly develop, co-market, and deliver highly integrated, optimized single- and multi-core operating system (OS) and tools solutions for networking, telecommunications, industrial, and automotive applications.
Green Hills will develop and optimize its Integrity OS around Freescale's QorIQ, PowerQUICC, and MPC5xxx Power Architecture controllers. Other Green Hills' tools in the mix include Integrity Secure Virtualization, the Multi integrated development environment (IDE), C/C++ compilers, and the TimeMachine debugging suite.
A second pieces of news from Green Hills announces the availability of Green Hills' multicore development solutions for Cavium Networks' Octeon family of MIPS-based multicore processors. In addition to the Integrity OS, this includes the Platform for Secure Networking, GateD Layer 3 routing protocols, and the Multi IDE. The Octeon family offers advanced security, networking and application acceleration, which allows it to place high in the performance per watt category.
