Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has released serial non-volatile static random access memories (nvSRAMs) that feature I2C and SPI interfaces, which are popular with metering, industrial and automotive applications. The new devices deliver operating frequencies up to 104MHz for the SPI devices (3.4MHz for the I2C products) and are also offered with an optional integrated real-time clock (RTC) that enables time-stamping of critical data to be backed-up.
Cypress’s nvSRAMs are manufactured on its S8™ 0.13-micron SONOS (silicon oxide nitride oxide silicon) embedded non-volatile memory technology. Target applications include electronic smart meters, motor drives, electronic data recorders in automobiles, RAID systems, medical and data communication systems.
The new Serial nvSRAM family includes 1-Mbit, 512-Kbit, 256-Kbit and 64-Kbit devices in multiple configurations. Cypress reports that these devices feature industry-first SPI operating frequency up to 104MHz, SPI Modes 0 and 3, infinite READ/WRITE and RECALL cycles with 20 years of data retention.
Cypress’s Serial nvSRAMs are available in I2C (1-Mbit: CY14B101J) and SPI (1-Mbit: CY14B101QA) interfaces in 8-SOIC and 16-SOIC packages. The devices are also available in 512-Kbit, 256-Kbit and 64-Kbit densities and with an optional integrated RTC. The devices are currently sampling with high volume production beginning in April.
