GreenPeak Technologies announced the first reference design for an RF4CE USB stick for the integration of RF4CE technology in PCs and home entertainment applications like set-top boxes, TVs and media players.
The stick design allows for an easy upgrade of PCs, set-top boxes, TVs and other home entertainment applications to accept ZigBee RF4CE commands from an RF4CE remote control or RF4CE wireless keyboard. The reference design includes both hardware and software tools including software stacks for the ZigBee remote control profile (ZRD) and ZigBee input device (ZID) profile, which is a human interface device (HID) compatible one. Certification guidelines and tools are provided.
David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
