Used for testing LTE mobile communications infrastructure
and network elements, the Sorbas LTE Test-UE from Signalion now supports 3GPP
LTE TDD bands 42 and 43, spanning 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz. The platform offers the
capabilities of a 3GPP LTE mobile terminal with additional test interfaces and
features for Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 testing; IODT (interoperability
development testing) and IOT (interoperability testing); functional and
performance testing; and monitoring. With this latest upgrade, Sorbas can be used for
functional testing of 3.5-GHz LTE and LTE-A eNB, including small cells.
David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
