I just heard that Alpha Data has announced the launch of the ADM-XRC-7Z1, the first in a new class of products featuring the Xilinx Zynq All Programmable system on a chip.
I discussed the Zynq last month in a post for All Programmable Planet. It uses a full hard-core implementation of a dual ARM Cortex-A9 microcontroller subsystem running at up to 1GHz and including floating-point engines, on-chip cache, counters, timers, etc. This is coupled with a wide range of hard-core interface functions (SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.) and a hard-core dynamic memory controller. All this is augmented with a large quantity of traditional programmable fabric and a substantial number of general-purpose input/output (IO) pins.
The ADM-XRC-7Z1 is an XMC Mezzanine card suitable for initial development through to deployment in rugged environments. Supporting the largest devices in the Zynq family, the ADM-XRC-7Z1 provides dedicated USB, serial, and Ethernet interfaces for the processing system. The programmable logic is served with on-board memory and flexible IO to the front and rear. The front IO supports the large range of Alpha Data XRM adapters for applications, including:
- Software-defined radio
- Radar and sonar processing
- Image processing
- Machine vision

Pricing and availability
Alpha Data says that the ADM-XRC-7Z1 is "competitively priced" and available to order immediately. It ships with a comprehensive software development kit, including example designs and software drivers. The board is available in industrial grade and air- or conduction-cooled variants, making it ideal for use in a wide range of markets and applications.
