Samsung is a highly efficient company. They do not just wnat to dominate - they want the competitors to exit the market. OLED is the future in the mobile business and they have a good play here.

$200M? When five guys building clicks for three months get $1 billion in Instagram and we are talking about $200M here. That seems very small.

This is a interesting news for mobile industry. Does this acquistion affects Apple for its future products? Apple invested $3 billion in display technology. They did not consider buying Novaled?

I dont know whether Apple considered trying to buy Novaled.

Novaled has been working closely with Samsung since about 2005 and those ties can be hard to break.

Samsung has had a stake in Novaled, reportedly at about 10 percent, for a couple of years, which might also present Apple with difficulties.

The thing is that Apple does not have a display making infrastructure into which it can plug Novaled patents and knowhow, Samsung does.

Is not Apple invested $3 billion in display technology, just few years back? It was reported that Sharp, LG and other got these grant. Apple can get these patents and pass it to one of them. Another way is that Apple had vision and might not have liked Novaled technology and was expecting something more special?
