As the dimension of semiconductors approach the nanoscale, it may be necessary to turn to ultra-precision metrology methods based on squeezed light.

thank you Colin, but years away from what...I am still not clear of commercial use of this technology...understanding fundamental science is great but making something useful would be great too

Squeezed light is pretty cutting edge and years from commercialization, but it has helped make the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) more sensitive.

Quantum technologies are getting closer and closer to being visible with the naked eye. And MEMS devices are finding a bigger and bigger range of applications. The two were bound to meet, and these researchers have one of the first merging of these important technologies going forward.
